Chapter thirteen

Samantha

This has honestly been the best date ever. If you would even call it a date. I’ve spent the past couple hours sifting through Elijah’s book collection in absolute fascination.

The room itself is filled with floor to ceiling dark wood bookcases that flow all around the room. There’s even a bay window bench to curl up on. The two large main walls both have ladders to reach the tall shelves. I visited the library in Oklahoma many times, but this room is much bigger.

The smell of the leather book covers and old pages fill me with such a happiness I haven’t felt in a very long time.

After we settled in and Elijah pointed out various first editions to me, he brought his work laptop in here and has been sitting with it in one of the large armchairs ever since. The chairs are like clouds, resting just in front of the bookcases with sconces above to illuminate your book. It is a room from my dreams.

The room is silent except for the sound of his keyboard clicking and the rain hitting off the window. I pick up a copy of Jane Austin and sit down in the armchair closest to the window, reading one of my all time favorites. It feels so natural with him, I don’t know what it is?

“Would you like a drink? I’m going to make coffee.”

I look up and see Elijah standing just by the door, a content look on his face.

“Can I have another glass of wine, please? I can drink it in the kitchen of course.” I go to stand but Elijah stops me, raising his hand, a soft smile on his face.

“Sit where you are, I will bring it to you. I trust you not to spill it over the books. I imagine you don’t like to waste alcohol,” he says with a hearty laugh. He is talking about the night at the studio when I had drunk my body weight in champagne and the night in the club and…. Well, so on and so forth, thank you Jose Cuervo for everything.

I go back to my reading as Elijah disappears into the dark hall. The sun has long set, the sky dark, the only light comes from the sconces as I relax further into my chair.

I take in the room around me, admiring the hard work that went into building it. I wonder if he built it himself? The thought of Elijah hammering a nail into a piece of wood, shirtless, has me heating up.

“Here you go, Sweetheart.” He passes me my glass of red wine, electric shocks radiate up my arm when our fingers brush. I can’t break my gaze from his fingers while they rest on mine. His other fingers push against my chin, raising my head to meet his warm eyes.

The air is hot and heavy between us, anticipation growing steadily as the seconds pass by. Lowering himself to his knees, he pushes between my closed legs and plants a small kiss to the inside of my thighs.
